Alexander Technique Lessons

Consider the gift of Improved Psycho-physical Use to maximize potential

by being aware of where we are now (including tension patterns and habits). We can have an opportunity to: 1) STOP; 2) consider our options and 3) proceed with an appropriate response.  As slaves to our unconscious reactions, we will often be triggered into an unwarranted reaction to everyday stresses.

Alexander Technique Lessons are times for getting away from habit patterns, which may first seem weird and/or wrong. Give a gift of better use of ourselves to yourself and your friends.

Diane Sawyer (ABC, World News) is challenging Americans to purchase at least one "Made In America" gift this Christmas (seehttp://abcnews.go.com/WN/mailform?id=14998335).  Her research reveals that the average family spends $704 for gifts each Christmas.  She says, if every family spends just $64 on a "Made in America" gift, 200,000 jobs will be created.  If all our the gifts we share were made in America, it would create 4.6 million jobs.  She asks, will you accept her challenge?

You can go to her web site-- http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/2011/11/made-in-america-gift-ideas/ -- for ideas for Made In America gifts, as these products can be hard to find but typically cost no more than ones made in China.

In my opinion, Diane Sawyer is doing more to help create jobs than anyone in Congress, and she is doing so by challenging us in exactly this way.  Will you join me in meeting her challenge?  You might think of it as a Christmas gift for America, and a Christmas gift for fellow Americans who desperately need our help.

Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Dee Graham

OHIO CITIZEN ACTION: FIGHT THE GERRYMANDERING FROM COLUMBUS

Dear Ellen --

Just when you think that you can't be surprised anymore by what goes on in Ohio politics, records reveal just how much of a game the recent redistricting process was.

Yesterday morning we released a comprehensive transparency report, uncovering much of what took place in the political backrooms. We prepared the report after reviewing thousands of pages of records obtained through public record searches.

Secret office:  A downtown hotel room was rented for three months to serve as a secret redistricting office (cost to taxpayers:  $9600).  Secret weekly meetings were held.  A national Republican consultant helped state officials craft a plan designed to keep potential maps secret.

Secret payments:  Two Republican staffers who worked on the maps for three months were secretly paid $210,000 in taxpayer funds.

Boehner pulling the strings:  Senate President Niehaus committed to ending up with a congressional map which Speaker John Boehner fully supported.

Republican indexes:  Districts were evaluated using multiple political indexes to ensure that the final districts would allow for a 12 - 4 Republican congressional delegation and majority control of the house and senate, even in a Democratic year.

Records withheld:  Many records continue to be withheld, including records regarding the ongoing secret negotiations about the congressional districts.

Our Money in Politics project is one more way Ohio Citizen Action works to hold politicians accountable to people. Please help support our work with a contribution of any size.

Happy Holidays,

Dear DANCE ACTIONs Creators,

The first planning meeting for our DANCE ACTIONs collective is Sunday, December 18 at 1 PM at my home studio - 4019 Red Bud Avenue, Cincinati, OH 45229. Please bring your ideas for change-inspiring dance actions, dramatizations, and any music ideas you might have, as well.  Amongst us there will be people who don't consider themselves "dancers" but have passionate ideas for the movement. There will be choreographers in the group that will take ideas and help mold them into moving art. There will be musicians, cooks, gardeners, bank clerks, psychiatrists, waiters, teachers, moms, and dads. Everyone involved is the 99% and through this creative path we can shine light on the deeper desires we all share.

We need someone to videotape the meeting so that we have more than a written record and can see the gestures and movements of the creative ideas. (Try sharing a wonderful idea and notice the dance of your gestures!) Please let us know if you or someone you know can do this.

Does anyone have an easel pad and easel they can bring? Please let us know.

Protect the Ohio River from Mercury Dumping!

Each year, the Ohio River is polluted with a higher volume of industrial waste products (including mercury and other toxics) than any other river in the United States. Now more than 800 miles of the river are considered contaminated by mercury, and mercury levels in fish tissue continue to rise.

In the face of these frightening realities, the Ohio River Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) had made plans to prohibit discharges of bio-accumulative toxics such as mercury into the river in 2013 -- but already industrial polluters like PPG Industries in West Virginia are asking for exceptions so they can continue to pollute.

Tell the Ohio River Water Sanitation Commissioners to deny the request from PPG Industries to continue discharging unsafe levels of mercury into the river.

THIS IS OUR CINCINNATI CITY COUNCIL (at least 4/9ths of it)!

We created the 4 empty seats by unseating the four Republican jackals.
Don't let them forget this!  We can empty theirs!  Time to begin to
"capitalize" on our work.

I know that the Los Angeles City Council is urging the state of California
to get behind the same measure. I feel that this amendment should be at the
forefront of activity in the coming year.

Here's some information on the LA story, and other communities showing
support for the amendment:

"Next week the Los Angeles City Council will vote on a resolution that calls
on Congress to amend the Constitution to clearly establish that only living
persons -- not corporations -- are endowed with constitutional rights and
that money is not the same as free speech. If this resolution is passed, Los
Angeles will be the first major city in the U.S. to call for an end to all
corporate constitutional rights.

The campaign in Los Angeles is the latest grassroots effort by Move to Amend
<http://movetoamend.org/> , a national coalition working to abolish
corporate personhood. "Local resolution campaigns are an opportunity for
citizens to speak up and let it be known that we won't accept the corporate
takeover of our government lying down," said Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap, a
national spokesperson for Move to Amend. "We urge communities across the
country to join the Move to Amend campaign and raise your voices."

Earlier this year voters in Madison and Dane County, Wisconsin
overwhelmingly approved ballot measures
<http://movetoamend.org/news/madison-and-dane-county-wi-voters-support...
itutional-amendment>  calling for an end to corporate personhood and the
legal status of money as speech by 84% and 78% respectively. In November
voters in Boulder, Colorado and Missoula, Montana both passed similar
initiatives with 75% support."

HI Justin,
Didn't know you were involved.  Good for you!  I'm for it.  Invited the group to camp in my front yard.  However, was told they wanted public land instead.

From Gene Bierhorst in NYC:
I wonder why among the numerous Republican presidential candidates,  the more or less ordinary people like Santorum or Huntsman do so poorly compared to the quasi lunies.  Is the nuttiness a sort of virtue?
("If English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it's good enough for us"--Bachman;
"close down 3 federal agencies, I can only remember 2 of them right now"--Perry; "Libya..?...Well...hmm...I don't know...about...that place"; Cain).
I read something in the Times the other day that said the Republicans just want someone to represent/express their hatreds.*  That might fit with an idea I've had:  on the economic ladder, people want to be sure their heels are digging deeply and securely into the uplifted eye sockets of the people on the lower rungs--and seem to be not so attentive to the spikey heels plunged into their own eyes by the rich on top of them. The just don't get it that in a Democracy, they can take the money away from the super rich and get it for themselves.  And, in scary times, the preceding inexplicable mirage seems to be stronger.
So, how did FDR manage to reverse that tide?
