Subject: [LloydHouseSalon] Calling all newspapers:  Impeachment Now!!!!

Dear Everyone,
And I do mean everyone.
This is a really great campaign to get behind.  Check you local paper to see if it is on "the list" compiled by Greg Mitchell. (see link below)  If it is, hold their feet to the fire about what constitutes impeachment standards.  This is a really brilliant idea.  For those on my list in Cincinnati, both the Enquirer AND the Post are on the list (of course).  Let's go get 'em!  This is a great opportunity to point out their spectacular bias and duplicity.
Elizabeth

Greg Mitchell of Editor and Publisher did a great job of pointing out the hypocrisy of the media re: Bush  vs. Clinton. Mitchell published a (likely  partial) list of newspapers that called for Clinton¹s resignation because of the Lewinsky  matter.  Where are they now?

If your local paper is on this list,  write to them and ask why they were so quick to call for Clinton¹s resignation over  a private sex matter and yet, when Bush has clearly violated the law and  deceived us into an illegal war, wherein his administration led the charge to  commit war crimes, the papers remain silent.  If your paper is guilty of  this, write to them.  The more letters they receive, the more they¹re  likely to listen and consider their approach.

You might also take the time to  research your local medial outlets¹ stances on Clinton and, if they advocated for impeachment or resignation and now remain silent about Bush, ask them why and let them know  what you think about their hypocritical stances.  Inform them about your  thoughts and feelings about Bush and impeachment/resignation and urge them to  call for Bush¹s impeachment.

Here is the list published by  Mitchell:

GOP tries to mask the real issues with illegal spying

A story in yesterday's Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/03/AR2006010301460.html)

brings more  revelations about Bush¹s illegal spying on US citizens without a warrant,  bypassing the FISA court.

Letters are needed not  just on Bush breaking the law, but specifically to counter the rightie noise  machine¹s spin that ³Clinton did it too² and that ³the public supports spying on  terrorists² (of course they do; that¹s not the issue); and that any oversight or  release of information about the spying program‹even so much as to know what  date in 2001 Bush began his illegal program‹ ³could potentially cause harm to  the safety of our nation.² Do they think we are idiots?  (Yes.)

The WaPo story blithely (without critique, of course) cites a Rasmussen Reports poll‹ widely touted by the White House and rightie pundits ‹ that 64% of respondents believe  that the NSA should be ³allowed to intercept telephone conversations between  terrorism suspects in other countries and people living in the United States.²  Conveniently omitted from the wording of this poll question is a) whether that  specific type of spying  should be conducted illegally, without a FISA warrant and b) whether there is concern about any spying beyond these strict parameters (it appears there is, although since Bush is operating in secrecy, we really don¹t know).

This is a really important innitiative. Letters to the editor reach thousands. We must keep up the pressure. During the Kerry Campaign the DNC had a terrific website with links to the "letter to the editor" email address for any paper you'd want. What happened to it? Anybody know where there is such a link o n the web today? ellen
