~ DEMOCRACY AND COMMUNITY ~

********* ********

~ at least glance over all of this to the end or you'd miss some  important stuff, like Friday's demonstration to end corporate personhood, arguably THE issue for democracy in our lifetime... Nuns on the bus "Network" calling for gun control....

MOVE TO AMEND, MOVE ON . ORG,  OCCUPY   all JOIN IN PROTEST TOMORROW!

Banner rally Friday 10 May, Central Parkway downtown:  3:30 to 7 pm.

Make a sign that we need a constitutional amendment limiting constitutional freedoms and protections to Persons, not Corporations.  This relates to the Citizens' United Supreme court case giving corporations rights to contribute to political campaigns.  I hope to be there with "Only People (not Corporations) are People!"  ellen

Hi Ellen,

From a logistics of folks being able to meet and find parking we picked Coffee Emporrium as a spot to begin at, fanning out from there to at least 2 blocks east of there, maybe more depending on turnout, as there is a large grassy median between the east and west bound traffic.  I spoke to the folks at Coffee Emporium and they said that was fine, and that finding parking at that time should not be too difficult. Here is the Google maps street view.

Hello Ellen--- congratulations to the mothers of the brides.  The wedding appears to be a great source of joy for the whole town.. The ceremony must have been wonderful. On the local scene  Art and I are just beginning to come out ourselves--his health is so much better and he is eager to do more than his duties at the court. But truly- at our ages nothing happens easily.....I do hope the Pastor is pleased with your strong support.  Louise

AND RE. THE V-DAY FILM

 FROM LAURIE LAMBERT

Ellen,

I found your card today as I was going through items from the V-Day event a week ago.  It was nice to meet you at the film screening, and I was glad to hear that you found the film to be worthwhile.  I would be happy to send/lend you my copy of the film  "Until the Violence Stops"  if you would like.  I would be delighted to attend and/or help out with a screening as well, whatever would suit you best.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you again for attending WWf(a)C's first V-Day event!

Laurie Lambert

 FROM MARA HELMUTH RE. LYNN WASNAK

Hi Ellen, I gave Diane (Waz, Wasnak) your email thinking you may already know her mother (LYNN WASNAK...SEE IN "DEMOCRACY &COMMUNITY" SECTION ABOVE), who has been ill for a while. She lives on Telford near Graeters. I thought you or someone in your lloydhouse network may want to be on a call list for them, in case something goes wrong. Diane lives in Louisville but will be working in Mississipi this sumer, and is concerned about her mom.  Teri and I were over there yesterday to help with her house.  We will be on the the call list, but live in Finneytown, which is kind of far away.

Hope you're doing well!

Mara

REVIEWS ~

 CINCINNATI WALDORF SCHOOL GREAT FOR ADD KIDS

My acupuncturist has a 13 yr old son with ADD.  Has him at the Cincinnati Waldorf School

http://www.cincinnatiwaldorfschool.org/

He outlined the program... sounds perfect for your son.  Now this is a private school, and it is not cheap, BUT if you live in a district where the local school is a "school in emergency", an official designation, then you will get a voucher that will pay most of the tuition. For example, my acupuncturist, Martyn Thomas, lives in College Hills which does have such a designation.  What you do is enroll the child in the public school and THEN enroll him in the Waldorf school.  College Hill is a nice, integrated neighborhood.  Several miles North of here on Hamilton Ave (is roughly the 1 mile diameter circle around Hamilton Ave and Cedar Ave.)

I'll bet Adrienne Cooper could help you find a good place to rent in College Hill.  Did I give you her phone number?  She's a realtor.  Here it is:  (513) 702-1692

The program sounded so ideal for a boy like yours.  Lots of movement... work off the 'wiggles' in the morning with running; then when you are all calm, do the focused brain work.  Lots of special movement education that is brain-related, lots of cross - over (right to left) for instance, and other enlightened things to help develop the brain.

Lots of art, music, dance, etc. etc.

I really hope you will visit the website asap and phone them and make an appointment.  They like to interview the child in his home... it will have to be at the Lloyd House, of course.

This sounds fabulous for your little guy, in my humble opinion (  ;-)  ], even better than SCPA, but I would still advise calling them as well.

No time to lose.

Ellen

 NEED CALORIE COUNTER?

I can give you just what you need.  It is an "app" called My Fitness Pal.

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

You enter the food and the portion size and it calculates the calories for you.  Also has the advantage of letting you form 'communities' with other users of the app.  Anna and I did it together for a while...  A client of mine does it, and her trainer is also on the app and sees exactly what she eats and also her exercise each day.  Cool!

The app is free.  Get the souped up version for a couple bucks.

 LIGHTWEIGHT BATTERY LAWN MOWER

http://www.neutonpower.com

Takes me 40 min to do both front and back, with front having quite a slope.

Battery lasts ~5 yrs, more if you treat in well!
FROM Anita Sorkin

 "The Female Brain"... must read for everyone, especially women... especially men.
We really are different... structurally.  Check it out.  is at the lib.

Fascinating... a million scientifically documented differences between male and female brains... before birth, in childhood, adulthood.  It will give anyone a big boost of understanding about themselves and the opposite sex.  Like, at 8 weeks of gestation the feotis, if it is to be a boy, is bathed in a heavy dose of testosterone which kills off a huge number of brain cells relating to reading other's expressions, emotions, and communicating to others.  Sound familiar?  So females really are better at relating and forming relationships and reading others' feelings and other cues.  It's not just that we give boys trucks and we give girls dolls and talk more to daughters than to sons.  Check this out.  Our public library has it.
