 What a weekend we have before us! Paulette Meier, May Festival, Larry Falkin. and, Ta-Da, my favorite actor Dale Hodges.. See Arts section.

 In DEMOCRACY AND COMMUNITY section there is the story about the settlement of the fracas over Western & Southern's bullying the Anna Louise Inn. Important piece on the extreme dangers of internet voting. Nuns on the bus... 'make this one phone call!". And, possible relief for people saddled with student loan debt... whose interest rates are due to be doubled this summer!

 several more letters; reviews; and a couple of important articles. One on the Associated Press being snooped upon by the administration (it's a shanda!) and one on Andrew Solomon's book and TED talk about how stigmatized groups can morph into identity groups. Cool.

Phone Records of Journalists of The Associated Press Seized by U.S.

The Associated Press reported that the Justice Department had secretly obtained the phone records of its offices and journalists, calling it a ?massive and unprecedented intrusion.?

WASHINGTON — Federal investigators secretly seized two months of phone records for reporters and editors of The Associated Press in what the news organization said Monday was a “serious interference with A.P.’s constitutional rights to gather and report the news.”

The A.P. said that the Justice Department informed it on Friday that law enforcement officials had obtained the records for more than 20 telephone lines of its offices and journalists, including their home phones and cellphones. It said the records were seized without notice sometime this year.

Ladies:

As I read the piece below I was laughing out loud at what male bosses will ask women to do to keep their jobs. And although I am not naive to the degree and depth of gender discrimination in America, this petition highlights how outrageous are the situations women face in the work place, and the impact this has on them and their children. So I signed it and forwarded it to the most progressive women I know on my list.

Hi and congrats on the marriage pretty historic!!! And grandson resembles what I remember David looking like! I have 2 events this weekend I would so love u to post. Friday may 17 , 8 pm at The York Street Cafe, Paul Cebar (my favorite singer songwriter ) from Milwaukee is here for one night and a rare solo performance . He has one of those voices that is like woah. Also his lyrics are clever and he has crazy command of the english language..his parents were teachers.
