Section One: Table Notes ............................................................................ (Note: these notes were taken at the table and have NOT been approved or corrected by the speakers.  Reader beware of inevitable misunderstandings and misrepresentations.  E.B.)
At the table Wednesday 6/18//08

Linda Gruber, Bob Witanowski, Mary Biehn, Carolyn Aufderhaar, Elaine Bradford, Mr. G., Judy Cirillo, Ellen Bierhorst, Mira Rodwan, Brooke Audreyal,  Chris Metzger

Topic:
The Economy.
Ellen My brother’s report about the tax burden being on middle class and not on the rich and this is why we should vote Democrat.
Bob Amazing data on the economy comparing 2001 and 2008, the Bush impact.  High gas prices, budget deficit not surplus, Number of billionaires, bush’ tax cut for the rich.

Carolyn I heard Honda is making a hydrogen fuel cell car.  ?
...
Bob you can burn hydrogen and produce water.  Explosive.  Hydrogen fuel cell produces electricity, another technology.  ... Chevy Volt is supposed to run an electric motor, like a locomotive that has a diesel engine charging electric batteries that run the train.  ... But to get hydrogen you have to crack water and that takes a lot of electricity.
... There is a lot of potential in solar that we aren’t using.  PVC panels on roofs.  Like in Japan, Germany where there are incentives.  Reduces emissions.  Also wind generators.  Wind generators produce 80 times more energy than it takes to build them.
Judy I hear about how successful the German solar program is for power. Incentives.
Bob CA had a tax incentive for people to use solar electric panels.

Judy  all our money goes to war instead of these kinds of things that would really help us all.

Mr. G. oil futures speculation accounts for 30% of the oil price hike.  According to Jim Lehr news hour last night.
... George Carlin died, 48 hour marathon on HBO cable TV.
Linda: Seinfeld’s piece in the NYTimes on Carlin: “Dying is hard, comedy is harder.”  Terrific.

Mr. G. I was  shocked to find out Tim Russart was a Democrat.

VIDEO:   WINNERS AND LOSERS IN THE CLASS WAR: Bill Moyers Journal
(thanks to Mira for recording and bringing this.)

Obama wants to roll back tax cuts for the rich.  Called “class war”.  There has been a class war and the rich have won.
The huge salaries of the corp. executives.
Corporate and political powers conive to keep workers down.
Roaring inequality.  People are working harder and earning less.
Story about the 30k/year worker just barely making ends meet.  ... Drives 20 mi. round trip to work.  “I’m not a screw up, I am trying hard.”  He joined union.  28 mile march in LA, CA ... “fight for good jobs.”
... Rare to have a job good enough that you don’t have to  work two jobs.

Story about a dock worker in CA.  Good salary, but this is rare.
Since ‘54, fewer and fewer workers are in unions.
A strong labor movement is good for the economy.  When workers earn more, they spend in the local economy.
Union workers earn 25% more than non union workers in same type work.

Bill Moyers: my father dropped out of school to pick cotton during the depression.  ...
Holly Sklar, “Raise the Floor” book.  “Business for shared Prosperity” organization.   A couple with three children have to work three jobs.
Average wages are lower than in 70’s; minimum is lower than in the 50’s.
It used to be that wages went up when productivity went up.  Now that is going to the very top of the upper class.  Most people are either treading water or falling behind.
80% of Americans work hourly jobs.
We are told we have to do this to be competitive in the global market.  But in fact the corp. leaders have been driving the economy into the ground.  Debt.  Infrastructure is crumbling.  Less spent on R & D.  Education is falling behind.

In 80’s, no minim. Wage increase.
Reagan busted the air traffic controllers strike.  Union busting.

People afraid to lose their jobs, afraid to lose health insur.  Harder to join union and ask for increases.
In 88 the minim wage was 9.88 / hour (adjusted for inflation).  Now it is 5.89 / hr.
They , the workers, are subsidizing the top tier of people.
What has been happening is pathological greed at the top...
We have the greatest level of spread between top and bottom of any industrialized country.  Other countries just don’t tolerate this.

39 other countries have lower infant mortality.  Lower life expectancy.  Results from inequality.
We are at a breaking point now; what people had been doing was maxing out their credit cards, taking home equity loans, taking extra jobs.  Now it is not sustainable.

We have to green the economy to survive; but it can also be used to jump start the economy in a good way.
Need to raise the min wage.
Need Universal health care.  18k people die from lack of health care each year.

Our mission (her organization) says what is  good for business is good for  workers, the country.  Shore up the economy, doing smart, long term sustainable development.  Will make our economy more healthy.

Historians calling now “the second gilded age”.  Greed and speculation.  Steve Fraser “Every man a speculator”.  Our nati’l obsession with Wall St.  Scandals after scandal.  Learned lessons?  No, we didn’t.  We left the financial market essentially unregulated.  Regulation became “obscene”.  “Bureaucratic government hurting business.”  Since 81 a myth that government was the enemy.

The “free market” true believers, do they believe sincerely?  Fraser: they don’t act like it.  They tout hard work, no regulation.
But when times are tough, like with Baer Sterns, they turn to gov’t to bail them out.  In the first gilded age they depended on the gov’t for lots of welfare, donations of land, etc. etc.
The most striking similarities with old guilded age is the cronyism between business and gov’t.  Jack Abramoff scandals.  The elected reps. Were representing corporations.  Crony capitalism.
Extreme, appaling inequalities between rich and poor.
This makes a warped set of priorities; vital capital resources are not put to improving the lives of ordinary people.

US becoming a class ridden society?  Yes.  Liberty produces wealth, and that wealth reduces liberty.  Uote from Lloyd.
Even the conservatives are worried about this wide disparity.
Our churches rarely denounce the materialism, the inequality.
In the first guilded age there was a vociferous opposition, uprisings against the mine owners, the rail road owners... General outrage.  But not today.  But this may be changing.  We begin to hear voice of economic populism in the Democratic party.  The set of crises:  the war is a disaster economically.  The economy is headed for a serious recession or worse.  For the last 25 years, whole sectors, towns are ghost towns.  People are making what their grandfathers made in 1948!  Have been doing badly for 25 years.

But  today the corporate elite are more sophisticated today in manipulating the electorate, unlike in the first gilded age.  They dress up like populists.  They play “the democracy game”.
The democrat party has capitulated to this in these last 25 years.

Look at how every major change has happened.  Not by electoral politics.  There are enormous expectations of change now.  People don’t like the enormous disparity of wealth.  People are insecure.  They want change.

Moyers: where comes the change passion?
Fraser: the millions of sweat shop immigrant laborers.  Being treated bad.  Exploited.  They are increasingly restive.  Some of the change will come from there.
Also people who have moved downward in the labor market.  Machinists now working as check out clerks.

When FDR was first elected in ‘32 he wasn’t a big reformer.  By ‘34 he was, because he listened to voices...

Consumerism:
It has become the defining characteristic of US culture.  It privatizes people.  People see consumer goods as what they want.  People no longer see themselves as part of a collaborative commonwealth.  The used to want to end the dog eat dog type society.  Consumer lust defeats collective action.

Huey Long , “Every man a king.”
We are at the point when people say”Enough is enough”.

Bernie Sanders, Sen. Vermont:
What is really going on in America.  Used email.  “the collapse of the middle class” booklet, published on his website.  “does anybody in Washington care?”

Most of the people in Washington listen to the sources of campaign funding.
Positive feedback loop, more and more

Only way to break this is campaign finance reform.  See ways to do this at PBS.org

(end of video).

Elaine: some manufacturers have brought back their factories to the US because of the high cost of oil (transportation).  ... I want to talk about health care insurance.

Mira I think there is another movement for people interested in self care to join together for lower cost health insurance.
Elaine the healers I prefer aren’t even covered by health insurance.

Chris the Exxon Valdese settlement  finally settled, instead of 2 billion, changed to half a billion.

    ~ End of Table Notes~

Shirley Reischman will give “Intro. To Homeopathy” at the Lloyd House
Monday July 14, 7 pm

This is a fascinating and authoritative presentation.  I never tire of hearing it.  AND Shirley gives a hefty discount for new patients on their first consultation as well as a $50 discount for existing clients who attend the talk.  Such  a deal!
Come and bring friends and family.

Homeopathy is NOT naturopathy, Not herbal medicine, Not acupuncture.  It is its own unique thing.  It is Not a new age thing, having been around since late 1700’s in it s present form.  Accepted and regulated by the FDA.  American Homeopathic Society is actually older than the AMA, the American Medical Association.
Homeopthy is well respected and widely used in Europe, India, and many parts of the world. The English royal family are all under the care of a homeopath.  I have been under Shirley’s care since 2004, and am so impressed!  Very grateful.

You need not RSVP, but you may, in order to let Shirley know how many hand-outs to bring.  Her no: 531 3060.

Local Farmer's Markets: Consider buying locally grown foods. It's good for your health & the economy by supporting local growers & vendors. Locally grown produce is typically tastier than that grown far away since it can be harvested riper & sold fresher & faster. You can often speak with the farmer to learn about how the food is produced, e.g., if it is organically grown or not, if that is a concern. Typically local foods are less expensive since they require less handling, packaging & transporting, & thus consume less fuel. Find a local market near you @ www.nutritioncouncil.org/eatwell/Factsheets/Local%20Farmer's%20Markets.pdf. Rob:  solstice with Indians Yellow Springs this weekend.Sat.
Ellen holistic fair this weekend (see announcements below in maroon)
Bill Northside farmers’ market, I got honey.  Wed. 4 – 7.
Braden Heart of Now experience night at my house (see blurb below in maroon section)
Ginger  “The singing revolution” film.  Estonia between 86-91 breakaway from USSR; sang forbidden songs.  Documentary.  Cinti Art Museum Tues, Wed, thurs, 7 pm.

Braden introduces Phillip Lipetz;  Phd in bio physics, Grad Antioch, lived India 20 yrs, studied under Babba Muktananda.  I myself got “neon signs” to study with Phillip.  Is bringing a Divine Mother experience (see below) here to Cinti .

    Phillip’s presentation
For the first time in history the physical demonstration of the Divine Mother is going to happen outside of India and be available to laypersons.  A unique point.

Why should  you care?  There have been a lot of second rate yogis come to US and have degraded the vocabulary.  So I have to bring you along first to understand.
This is different.  Transformative.  One of the essential questions: is it possible to be enlightened while alive, jivan mukti.  Before Buddha’s time, it was like Western spirituality,... You do your best.  Then you die.  But Buddha was enlightened, so that changed things.  ..Then 1500 years of Hindu philosophy arguing whether you can be enlightened while alive. Can you get beyond maya, illusion?  “Because you have a body, you are tied to the illusion.”
Great saints, they rise and they fall.  In the Jameshwari, Janeshwar’s commentary of the B’hagavad gita of Krishna it says, If you happened to get enlightened, try hard to keep it.
The world reacts against you.  We all have been trying spiritual practices.  We have not produced a lot of saints here in the West.  Why?  We don’t understand the conspiracy to keep us inside the illusion and we don’t understand what enlightenment is.
Conspiracy:  as you achieve spiritual heights, there is negativity that comes automatically.  This is even in the Bible.  E.g. Job; Daniel; ... Also New Testament.  The illusion has to keep you in it or else it disappears.  If we didn’t agree to the illusion, creation would cease to exist.
Everybody has been on the road to escaping from illusion at some point, and then nature pulls you back in.
There are many techniques that accurately teach you how to raise your energy; but the don’t teach how to maintain, control, hold on to it when the inevitable negativity comes.  So we need to be taught how to handle this onslaught.  ... We have been caught in a lower form of spirituality.

Second trick:  it is impossible to eliminate your participation in the illusion.  Give that that idea.  Then pursue a second simultaneous level of consciousness.  Have that going all the time.
We sense that there is this Brahma energy, but we can’t be aware of it all the time.

The closest you can get to this energy is the interface between the energy and the illusion.  At that edge you can see in, but still have your body.  The best gurus take  you to the interface and give you a peek at that.  When that becomes real to you, you can get there on your own.

IN order to get there, you must have a non-meditation experience of it.

The doorway between the world of this illusion and the world of Brahma is the Divine Mother.  Mary, Kali, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Divine Feminine.  It is the force that takes the Brahma energy and makes the illusion , the world.  It is constantly happening.  As you gain contact with her, you can change reality.  Make the law of attraction work for you.  This happens when you physically see the Divine Mother.

    It changes you forever.

So we are inviting you to come and have an experience of the Divine Mother.  This is extraordinary.
Swami Muktananda was a great teacher ... He didn’t have permission to teach the Divine Mother technique.  Out of compassion; if you don’t know how to handle the negative reaction.

I discovered Swami Kaleshwar  teaching people to have Divine Mother experience.  ... One day I was cleaning the ancient manuscripts for him, and there was one that tells how to deflect the negativity if  you have a group that has the experience.  When there is a group that shares energy, the negativity gets deflected.  Maheshwari Process shows how to give the Divine Mother to groups.  He started to teach it in India.  Then brought it to U.S.  Last year 220 trained, and 130 of them went back to India and every one experienced the Divine Mother.  In Sept. there will be a group experience here in the US for the first time.

In two weeks, the beginning process.  You learn a mantra, ou do it ten min. a day in preparation.

Cincinnati has become the fulcrum for this energy to come into the world.  We are not asking that you join our cult.  Only that you come and identify with brothers and sisters in the group that together are helping you haxe this experience.
On June 28, 29, people will gather, will learn mantra, draw the mantra ...sacred object...  Then you do 3 months of mantra 30 min a day, then Sept 20, 21 travel to California, northern, and experience the Divine Mother.  Interface between the two worlds.  Seeing the doorway.  ... The group provides protection for  10 minutes or so  for you to get the Divine Mother, then you get it.  The fast way.

autobiog. Of Muktananda “Play of consciousness” is all about the Divine Mother.  Yogananda, “Autobiog. Of a Yogi” is also all about the Divine Mother.  It is the secret of real Indian spirituality.

Ginger  are you concerned you are creating a dependency on the group?
Phillip  you don’t have to hang out with the group.  We have weekly phone calls to keep the energy going.  We don’t ask for meeting attendance.

    Rob what is the illusion?
    Ph:  this physical body.
Rob my native American belief.. We have to get int tune with the earth.
PH:  we believe there is only energy.  ... The point is you can stop being a victim of the illusion.
    Carolyn What language the mantras?
    Ph: sandscrit and telegoo.
Brooke protection from the negativity from the groupism.  Then when you leave you maintain protection thru phone call link?
Ph  Yes, the job is to incorporate it into your daily life  Once a week.  Not obligatory.  You get “a service contract”.
Elaine  I have studied w/ teachers in S America; also Nepal and India.  All seems the same.  Agree?  ...

Ph:  we don’t need to go to a power spot.
Elaine  our physical is our teacher.
Ph No, not what I am saying.  ... You make your own relationship with the “doorway” and you can go off and do it your own way.  My only job is to take you to the doorway.   ... Saying “it is all divine” doesn’t help you change things.

Bill Almost sounds like “born again” in Christian tradition.  Yes?
Ph Close.  The difference is that we say you can have a transformation that not only guarantees salvation after death, but one that changes your life now.
Duane:  rupert Sheldrake work ...  Communication through your dog...  Morphic resonance.
Ph Yes, I’ve had lunch with him.  “Saints get this, how could I get this too?”  I didn’t make the choice; I have no idea.  You are eligible because you are here.  ... It might be easier to have a minor experience than to have the Ultimate one.

Carolyn in the Course on Miracles it says only Love is non illusion.
P: when  you practice compassion, the energy flows through you.  When you practice love, you get the energy more.
The Dalai Lama calls it Divine Selfishness.  It’s the way to experience more of the good stuff.  ... Love is compassion.

... The expense. $ 1008 for the initiation.  Then in Sept another $1008.  I am not making a dime.  Tax deductable up to $858  of the 1008.

Mira  mysteries, secrets... When I hear about a group like this I get worried about leaving people out because they can’t afford it.  .... I hear a lot of sincerity ...  I worry, though, about elitism.  I like that the Dalai Lama promotes kindness, compassion, love....  I see a connection between what you are saying and the divine mother earth who is crying out for us to work in harmony with  her.
Ph The purpose is to train teachers who can spread this.  Money.  When you get something like this, there is a certain amount of pain and negativity.  If it is in the form of dollars out of your pocket we can control the negativity; and it goes to a charity in India that feeds poor people there.  ...  Compared with the hundreds of thousands of dollars and the decades of study that I put in, you guys are getting off cheap.

bob After the experience in California in Sept.... Cost?
Ph Some will want more  but not necessary.  The whole thing I am describing is $2016.

Harry (a devote): I’ve been studying with Phillip about a year, Learning mantras... Phillip talked about soul travel.  Iwas sitting in our kitchen one morning and Phillip appeared in my kitchen. Gives me chills to talk about it.  He was physically there.  ... Phillip and his girl friend were at our house two weeks ago, we had a sat sang with students.  It was Sat. night.  Kelly in the kitchen, I was sitting with Phillip who was  meditating.  He said, “There was just an earthquake, did you feel it?    That was 10:20 Sat nite, 2 weeks ago.  I went upstairs, on computer, a 6.7 Richter scale earthquake off Taiwan at exactly the 9:57 our time; it took 20 minutes to arrive here and he felt it.  ... Kelly and I have studied different types of spirituality for 20 years.   ... We’ve got 20 people going to take the training in 2 weeks, and probably 50 will take the training in California in Sept.

    ~ End of Table Notes~
    Hugs to everyone,
    Ellen

Experience Mother Divine     June 28th & 29th in Cincinnati

The Divine Mother is seen as the creator aspect of the physical realm in most every spiritual tradition. This is no different in the Hindu Tradition. To experience her is one of the highest experiences one can have in this physical realm since she is the point where the unmanifest manifests into creation. This experience is what Philip will be  bringing to Cincinnati, one of two locations (the other in Laytonville CA) for the first of a 2 part process, which will culminate in Laytonville in Northern California in Mid-September. Swami Kaleshwar, a young enlightened teacher of the highest degree & Philips Spiritual teacher (Kaleshwar.org), will be traveling from India to Laytonville, to conclude this rare process. This Process is open to anyone and does not require them to give up or adopt any new religious traditions, which is the beauty of it. This will be quite an amazing opportunity for the residents of this fair city and region!
If you would like to learn more please contact Braden or come to the Salon next week 6/18 and hear Philip speak about the process.  Braden Trauth

    JUNE 28-29
    Taking Torture to TASSC
Following UN Torture Abolition Day there will be a 24 hour vigil sponsored by Torture Abolition Survivor Support  Coalition opposite the White House, on Saturday June 28  to Sunday, June 29; Washington, D.C.
As our nation struggles with the realization of our complicity in the use of torture for political purposes, sisters of the Ursuline Society are inviting friends and concerned citizens to join us in
    peaceful public protest.
Inspired by the experience of Ursuline Sister Dianna Ortiz, who founded a Center for receiving other torture survivors, we choose to witness to the injustice of these practices, to state our moral outrage, and to demand a change of national policy.
Sister Dianna, founder of TASSC, in her book, The Blindfold's Eye, recounts her experience of torture as well as her effort to work with the US government in identifying the details of her case.
Google TASSC for information on this ministry.

Our dear Lloyd Library down town is putting on a fun ART project this summer... People coming together under the directio of an artist to creat books, collage, and film to explain what the LloydLibrary does and what it has.  People can participate a lot or a little.  Looks good to me.  Ellen

Hi Ellen,

The Lloyd is about to embark on an exciting new project providing we are awarded a grant from the Ohio Arts Council—we should hear any minute now!  Anyway, we would like to inform members of the Lloyd Salon about it and invite any willing participants.  Please share the message below with Salon attendees tonight.

Thank you,
Maggie

Calling adventuresome people, playful people, creative people and “oh-let’s-just-have-fun-with-it” people.

Participants are still needed for an innovative visual art project.

When: mornings or afternoons- weekdays (specific times have not been set yet) from Monday, July 7 through Wednesday July 23.
Core group participants will meet the most often- from 8 to 15 times through the whole project.
Peripheral groups will meet from one to five times though out the whole project

Where: The Lloyd Library and Museum 917 Plum Street Cincinnati, Oh 45202 www.lloydlibrary.org <http://www.lloydlibrary.org>

What: Participants will work with visual artist, Kate Kern, through an Ohio Arts Council Arts and Learning grant, to create a multi-media installation that brings art and science together.
This  “Alternative Field Guide to the Lloyd” will engage viewers with a sense of adventure that is shared by artist and scientist. The process of making the piece will encourage participants to insert themselves, their own experience and memories into the scientific knowledge and history contained in the library.

Beginning with a  guided exploration of the Lloyd’s collection,  participants will work as individuals and in small groups or teams to create images and text (selected from or inspired by the collection).
The selected images and text will be used to create a series of artists books, a slide show (to be projected in the installation and also shown on the Lloyd’s website)
and a collaged three dimensional “garland”.

An exhibition of the final installation will be on display at the Lloyd as the opening exhibition of their fall season.

There is no charge to participate in the project. Most Materials and equipment will be provided on site. Participants will be asked to bring a few items. A list will be provided before the project begins.

Who: Maybe you!
No specific skills are needed to participate, only a desire to be part of the project. As far as age- participants must be able to work independently, without supervision. That said – we have a very limited capacity for parent child (grandparent grandchild, etc) pairs to participate in one of our groups.

To register:
If you are interested please respond to:  Anna Heran  aheran@lloydlibrary.org

Let us know how many times you can participate, your contact info  and a little bit about you –what interests you the most about this project.
We would like to have the groups set up by June 20th.

Also- we are still looking for stand alone groups that could participate. Kate can come out to visit a limited number of groups. We are especially interested in seniors and  gardeners.

Richard Blumberg on Historic Supreme Court Ruling:

Friends,

The Supreme Court recently granted detainees at Guantanamo Bay access to federal courts.  Barack praised the landmark decision, which demonstrate his courage, his intelligence, and his understanding of the values and traditions that formed the American character. John McCain called the decision “one of the worst decisions in the history of this country”, demonstrating his own profound ignorance of that very history.

Now the Republican attack machine is all over Obama for being "soft on terrorism".

Please take a minute to sign this online petition; <http://my.barackobama.com/libertiespetition>  by doing so, you will demonstrate your support for the decision of the Court and for Obama's forthrightness in praising that decision. (Petition at http://my.barackobama.com/libertiespetition)

Please show the Obama campaign that people of goodwill support him, people whose patriotism is rooted in a love of those traditions that created the first genuinely free nation in the modern world and that must be honored if we are to preserve our freedom. And please encourage your friends of like mind to sign the petition as well.
Thanks for your help.
With regard,

Richard
